Contents of the Collection The collection consists of an incident report and photographs of a B-17G crew, 490th Bomber Group, 850th Squadron, based in Eye, East Anglia, England with its aircraft that was damaged by enemy fire during a bombing mission on March 9, 1945. The two-page report by B-17 pilot Robert Mason describes that the crew came under flak fire en route to their bombing target: railroad yards in Frankfurt, Germany. Contents of the Collection The David R. Mathis photographic portrait is comprised of a single 5x7" black-and-white photographic portrait of David R. Mathis in his United States Army Air Forces uniform, dated 1943. There is a handwritten caption on the reverse: "26 yrs David Robert Mathis 1943." The photoograph was found in the foot locker of Anita G. Parker, a servicewoman of the Army Nurse Corps, but the connection between Mathis and Parker is unknown.

The majority of the collection is comprised of Aircraft Accident Reports from the Civil Aeronautics Authority (CAA).
